Integrating Chemical and Biological Processes for Water and Soil Remediation:

We develop strategies that combine chemical and biological processes to overcome limitations of existing technologies. By leveraging interactions at mineral surfaces, we aim to improve both the efficiency and practicality of water treatment systems

Hybrid Materials for PFAS Removal and Destruction

Our lab designs composite materials that integrate adsorption and chemical oxidation in a single platform. By combining modified clay minerals with iron-based catalysts, we localize pollutants and promote their rapid degradation. These materials are inexpensive, environmentally benign, and effective against highly persistent contaminants.

Microalgae Harvesting and Sedimentation for Carbon Sequestration

We are working on methods for enhancing the biological pump in open and engineered environments to increase carbon sequestration to the deep ocean and for combating harmful algae blooms.

Understanding the Fate of Microplastics in the Environment:

We follow the behavior and fate of microplastic particles in soils and water to better understand the risks they pose and their long term fate.
